Edusko, a Nigeria’s based EdTech company, hosted hundreds of parents and their teenagers in Lagos to discuss solutions to challenges of parental responsibility in the digital age. The event, called The Avenue, is a convergence of young people and their parents to enhance healthy early childhood experiences, ensure a head-start
to a rewarding career, promote positive outcomes for children and help parents build strong relationships with their wards. In his opening address, the convener of the event, Jide Ayegbusi, highlighted why the event was organised by his team. He said, “Parents are among the most important people in the lives of young children. Sadly, many parents’ lives are fraught with problems and uncertainty regarding their ability to ensure their children’s physical, academic, career, emotional, or economic well-being. The Avenue aims to enhance healthy early childhood experiences, ensure a head-start to a great career, promote positive outcomes for children and help parents build strong relationships with their children.” One of the key highlights of the event was the teenagers panel discussion where student representatives from Olashore International School, Osun; Greensprings, Lagos; Corona Secondary School, Lagos; Grenville International School, Lagos; FUNAAB International School, Abeokuta and Airforce Secondary School, Lagos, lent their voices on expectations of teenagers from their parents in the digital age. The students posited that parents should understand that technology has come to stay and should not always think that their children’s activities online are questionable. Speaking on the parents plenary, Izefua Erhaboh, Parent and Child well-being Coach; Alex Goma, Corporate Strategy & External Affairs Director, PZ Cussons; Oluseyi Jolayemi, COO, SwiftThink and Chinwe Iloghalu, Chairperson, Advisory Board of Cityevents.ng discussed solutions to challenges of parental responsibility in the digital age. It was concluded that technology can either be used for good or bad and that parents should give their children some level of freedom to explore the good side of technology as we enter the fourth industrial revolution. The event was concluded with a special counselling session on career and scholarship opportunities offered by some of the top universities in Ghana, UK, USA and Canada. Edusko Africa’s flagship, Edusko.com, is Africa’s largest online platform where loving families find suitable private schools in Nigeria, Ghana and beyond.
