Meadowlands School, Abuja

Our approach to Education conveys the perfect mix of care and learning in a christian environment that is stimulating and challenging at the same time. Meadowlands School blends the best components of both British and Nigerian Curricula. The British National Curriculum outlines what must be taught at each level for the children from ages five to eleven years. Meadowlands Primary delivers the curriculum at age marked categories known as ‘Key Stages’. The National Curriculum in the UK defines the minimum educational requirements for students of compulsory school age (5 – 16 years). It is organised on the basis of five Key Stages, and as an Early Years and Primary School our educational programme is completed at the end of Key stage 2. At the end of each Key Stage, students take assessments to determine the levels they have reached. As our children come from a diverse cultural background, we try to reflect this in our curriculum. The decision to bring your child to school should have benefits for all concerned. Information about your child’s welfare when you are not with them is therefore very important. At Meadowlands, we take our roles as the custodian of your child very seriously. Planned activities provide you with part of the picture. Your child’s key worker will provide you with details of your child’s individual responses during the day. We will also complete a variety of formal and informal reports that will feed back to you. This constant dialogue along with opportunities to attend informative evenings focusing on care and education are all part of the package we offer you. Being informed enables you and your child to make the very best of our services. We provide appropriate toys and equipment to allow children to make choices and we train our staff in presentational skills so that rooms are laid out in a stimulating way. We make our children feel valued and loved whilst enhancing their self-esteem, fostering their ability to be independent and taking time to reinforce skills regularly so that every child responds at their own pace, and consolidate learning. This is the cornerstone of our philosophy at Tender Years School. When the time arrives for toilet training, we take our lead from you, using positive reinforcement to guide your child through this important stage of his / her further development. The baby and toddler areas of Meadowlands School follow the guidance of the Birth to 3” matters document produced by The Department of Education in London. The Staff follows this accordance with the Nigerian Curriculum to enable us to engage the younger children in active learning. Following this and linked to it is the Foundation stage curriculum for children from 3 to 5 years old covering the period up to the reception class year at school. We believe that our 2–tier curriculum provides a stepping-stone for early learning goals, together with the benefits of full day care with trained staff that understand and appreciate all your child’s needs.
