Opoku Ware Girls Academy management, working as a team with well motivated     and qualified teaching and non-teaching staff shall direct our students to acquire vocational skill and knowledge in Business Practices, General Arts and ICT which would empower the students to identify and develop their abilities and potentialities to enable them contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the nation.

The school, with the motto ‘Vitae Discumus’ – “We Learn For Life” was started in 1965 as the ‘Ghana Fashion Centre’ with six (6) apprentices.  In September 1975, the name was changed to Opoku Ware Girls Vocational Institute.  In October 2007 when the Senior High School Programme was introduced, the present name Opoku Ware Girls Academy (VOC/TECH & S.H.S) was adopted.  The School has facilities for both boarding and day students.    Progress(1975-1976)  My Vision started to unfold as the training programme became successful with an increase in the enrolment. TO enable the products of the Centre to be awarded certificates as evidence of their succesful completion of their training programme, I was encouraged and advised by well-wishers and the department of Social Welfare to make it a Girls Vocational School.  In September 1975, it was registered as Opoku Ware Girls Vocational Institue with the consent of the late Otumfuo Opoku Ware II who cherished the same aspirations as I had for young girls. The institue which was then housed in rented premises at Asafo catered for both boarding and day students. Lack of Permanetn accommodation posed a major problem to the expansion of the school. However, in Febraury 1976, the school was compelled to move from Asafo due to an ejection order to a new premises at Ahodwo which was a residential accommodation through the benevolence of my husband, Mr Alex Yaw Nsiah, now Nana Boadi Amponim II.  Acquisition of Land For Permanent Site  Like any progressive institution, the school continued to grow and increased in student enrolment thus creating accommodation problems at Ahodwo. Through the instrumentality of the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, a thirty (30) acre plot of land was acquired at Esreso about 8 kilometers south of Kumasi on the Lake Road, near Sawua Junction, for the construction of permanent buildings for the school.  Since the inception of the school it has been self supporting through the prudent and careful management of her limited resources. After acquiring the land at Esereso, the infrastructural development became a problem because of lack of adequate funds, coupled with hard economic conditions ion Ghana. Work for the development of the site thus slowed down.  In the light of the increasing student population I was compelled to look for funding outside my limited resources to enable me develop the new site. It was a big problem but the Lord always makes a way when there seems to be no way Through the benevolence of an American Field Service (AFS) volunteer who was the guest of the school, she arranged with her family and friends in Belgium who wholeheartedly contributed equipment and an amount of Fifty Million Cedis which went a long way to propel the development of the site. The following companies, Owusu Timbers, SEA Timbers, LLL Timbers donated a quantity of timber products and Mr. Kofi Nsiah provided a tipper truck for conveying sand and stones to the site. Mr Owusu Takyi of TAKBEK LTD, Mr Obeng of Obeng & Associates and Mr. Raphael Opoku also generously supplied iron rods, cement and roofing sheets on hire purchase, basis
