Muslim Academy

Muslim Academy was founded by Mrs. Karam Jan, and was initially known as Muslim Girls’ School. Mrs. Karam Jan arrived in Kenya in 1925 and saw the need for a school to teach girls of Islamic faith around Nairobi. Before coming to Kenya she had started a girls’ school in Haripur in North of India (Current day Pakistan). The first class started in 1927, in her own home in the Giant Singh Shamba, which is currently the location of Kamukunji Police Station. Parents were reluctant to send their daughters to class at that time, there was little in the way of transport besides rickshaws. Word soon spread around Nairobi that an Ustani (lady teacher) had a class in Nairobi, and the first year it grew to twelve children. In 1937 Ms. Qamar Jehan, a young lady all the way from India (Bombay then) had responded to an advertisement in an Indian newspaper and had arrived in Nairobi to work as Principal of Muslim Girls’ School, she took over the school and her wise leadership and dedication to the Muslim Community saw the excellent leadership but great feasts for the Punjabi Muslim community, as she was also responsible for the construction of Muslim Women’s Hall, organized financial assistance to destitute women spanning a period of 50 years. School Motto: For Knowledge and Values It is our aim at Muslim Academy-Park Road, to impart the highest standards of education to our children. Together with this, we also aim to build strong Islamic foundations, which include development of positive Islamic thoughts, good manners, respect and a deep sense of love for Islam as a way of life. As a school, we strive hard to make sure we provide a good Islamic environment which will support the school’s Islamic ethos and produce outstanding Muslims in future in-sha-Allah. Vision Statement Islamia Madrassa Society aims at providing a conducive learning environment in all its institutions that nurture sound Islamic and Secular Education in order to develop the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical character of a child in accordance with the Laws of Allah Ta’ala as shown by example of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Mission Statement To inculcate in learners the consciousness of Allah Taala and of the Qur’an as a source of intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical growth as shown by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Strive to nurture every learner’s spiritual, moral, academic, physical and social development through a broad and balanced curriculum founded relentlessly in Qur’an and Sunnah. Provide the best quality Education for all learners to fulfill their potential in an Islamic learning environment. Developing in the learner confidence, responsibility and leadership qualities based on compassion, humility and righteousness. developing a culture of tolerance and respect towards human beings. Encouraging freedom of thought and expression within the bounds of Sharia (Islamic Lam) Providing knowledge, skills and attitudes commensurate with dedication and excellence Enable all learners to reach their full potential and to become responsible and contributing members of the Muslim community, Kenyan society and Humanity at large.
