Playhouse was inspired by our founder’s young nephew who is autistic. At the time, she was living in Pittsburgh and oversaw his tutors who were hired to help him with educational activities. This is where it was observed how every child, including those with disabilities, has the desire to learn. Inspired by the discovery Aisha Gumel realised that schools in Nigeria were missing an opportunity to have children learn through play. Upon her return to Nigeria, she immediately started working on the structure and vision for Playhouse Daycare, a place where every child not only receives a great education but they have fun and learn through play in an inclusive and non-judgmental environment. Playhouse Daycare has now been in operation in the Federal Capital Territory for fifteen years. Aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) British standard of learning, we work with children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Each child that attends Playhouse is taken as an individual and meets their development milestones at their own pace. We work to ensure all children will develop physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and linguistically.
