Our educational programs, activities and administrative practices are guided by the following beliefs. We believe that: Every child is born with innate abilities and potentials which should be nurtured to assist the child maximize his God-given potentials. All children are different and therefore learn in their own unique way. Children have within them a natural urge to explore and discover the world around them and find joy in learning when they are actively engaged in the learning process. Children learn best in an environment of mutual respect and one that provides opportunities for cognitive, social, emotional, moral and physical growth In our Preschool, we ensure the delivery of an effective interactive teaching and learning process carried out in a well prepared Montessori classroom environment. We make use of a well-defined and designed Montessori curriculum which is specifically designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century Early Years Learning Goals. Practical Life and Sensorial exercises which is exclusive to a typical Montessori programme, is considered vital and carried out appropriately, as it physically and intellectually unfolds ‘a world of discovery’ to the children. Practical Life and Sensorial exercises which is exclusive to a typical Montessori programme, is considered vital and carried out appropriately, as it physically and intellectually unfolds ‘a world of discovery’ to the children. This curriculum is continuously modified and expanded by our experienced team to accommodate our indigenous and the British Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) curriculum. In Pope John Paul II Montessori School, we aim at educating and enhancing the overall development of the child. We pay attention to the child’sLanguage/Communication skills, Physical, Social, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual developmental milestones and focus on achieving the desired standard. Our Preschool is quite vibrant, authentic and warm which encourages our children to flourish and blossom into disciplined resourceful and autonomous learners. We adhere to the Montessori Vertical Grouping method which allows children of certain mix age group learn together in one class. We also practice individualized teaching which ensures that each child move at his/her pace without being unduly rushed or made to wait for a slow learner. Each child is treated as a unique individual yet socializing and spontaneous interaction with others is encouraged, thereby creating an ideal community of young souls who understand the essence of interdependency and shun unhealthy competition. All aspects of Practical Life and Sensorial Exercises are introduced and practiced individually and in groups. They are encouraged to do this repeatedly until skills are acquired and mastered and concept discovered and applied. Through Practical Life exercises, children develop, motor skill, balance, dexterity, poise, social skills, independence, responsibility, concentration and muscular control which prepares them for writing, reading and further complex work in his/her learning. Through Sensorial exercises, the children’s senses (Visual/sight, auditory, Tactile/touch, olfactory/smell and gustatory/taste) are refined and sharpened. This is very vital to intellectual and personality development all through life. This is line with what Aristotle opined, that “there is nothing in the intellect which was not first in the senses” Montessori believed that intelligence is not fixed, but dependent on the quality and how much positive stimulation and impressions that your brain receives. In the Montessori Language/Communication skills, we make use of graded phonic instructions which begins with learning the individual phonic sound of each alphabet to synthesizing and blending graded words, then to formal reading of longer and non-phonic words using various teaching aids/materialsto concretize the concepts and make learning fun. Writing is achieved early through colouring exercises, scribbling and drawing, tracing the Metal insets for design and Sandpaper letter etc. Numeracy development, Cultural Studies/Knowledge of the World, Information Technology skills, Social & health Habits, Art and Craft, Physical Education, French, Speech making using proper dictions etc. are some other topic and subject areas that are handled effectively using the Montessori method. Our teachers are graduates, well trained and qualified Montessori experts with relevant experiences. They are trained to objectively study the child, do away with bias and offer practical guidelines to children on handling challenges effectively in all the areas of development. They are trained to do more than just teaching, they lead, direct, mould and love the child, which is why they are referred to as ‘Directress’. In helping us achieve holistic education cycle, we involve our parents or guardians during special days like the ‘Open Day” where Parents and teachers discuss the child’s needs and progress, and suggest techniques and action-plans that can be used to improve each child’s learning. I can assure you that, Saint John Paul II Montessori School is a first class learning centre and we have recorded huge successes with lots of testimonies from parents on the transformation that has taken place in their children’s life. We encourage you to pay a visit to us today and experience our dynamic environment and outstanding learning facilities. We expect you soon
