St. Thomas Secondary School, Located at the popular Airport Road in the metropolis of Kano city Nigeria, is a renowned Boys’ School of the Catholic Dioceses of Kano. Its history is rooted in the vision founders, priests of the Society of Missions in Africa (SMA). It is on record that the ambition of the Catholic Church to provide Western Education for children was initiated by Archbishop John McCarthy (SMA). In 1958, Archbishop John McCarthy, the Archbishop of Kaduna, sought the permission of Kano State Government to establish a boys’ school. Following the approval of his request, St. Thomas’ Secondary School was opened in January 22, 1959. The school was built by Fr Thomas Duffy (SMA), and named after his patron saint, St. Thomas Aquinas. Its pioneer principal was Revd Fr Thomas, prior of SMA, who served in that capacity till 1966; the pioneer proprietor was Archbishop John McCarthy(SMA). Its present proprietor is most Revd Dr John Namaza Niyiring(OSA), Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kano.
