Standard Bearers School has an inclusion policy for children with special needs. We believe that every child has a right to quality education without discrimination or alienation. Children with learning challenges such as Autism, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy (where we can meet the needs of the child) and Down’s syndrome are main-streamed into the school and an Independent Education Plan is created for each special needs pupil. The child will be integrated into the academic and social curriculum of the school with his/her special circumstances and abilities taken into account such that they learn and work at their own pace. At SBS, we work hand in hand with parents who provide their special needs child with support therapists thereby enabling them to cope better in their classrooms. We encourage our special needs pupils to participate in all school activities to enhance both academic and social development. However, Standard Bearers School limits the number of children enrolled in its Special Needs Programme and acceptance is subject to: The provision of a comprehensive educational psychologist report An in-house assessment by the school In the event that the child has siblings; that they are also registered at SBS as it is essential for children with special needs to receive physical support from their loved ones.

Standard Bearers School was established at a time when the educational system in Nigeria was going through a difficult phase. While there seemed to be a proliferation of schools at the time, quality standards were fast diminishing. The idea to establish SBS was borne out of the desire of the founder, Mrs. Adeyinka-Oni, to create a school where academic and creative talents were given similar priorities. An educator at heart and a teacher in a high-brow primary school at the time, it was agonizing for her to see pupils struggle with schools that were too big for inclusion and curriculums that were hard for every student to grasp. This being the exact opposite of what she experienced growing up, she resigned her job and set out to recreate the primary school of her childhood, thereby filling the void she saw in the system. SBS opened its doors on January 7th, 1997 with a small group of committed teachers and a few pupils. With hard work, perseverance and prayer, Mrs. Adeyinka-Oni has been able to actualize the school of her dreams. Over two decades later, SBS has grown tremendously in size, with a state-of-the-art facility spanning 4,500 square meters of prime property at the heart of Lekki Phase 1, off Admiralty way, Lagos and has produced many children who have gone on to do great things. Regardless of the landmarks achieved, SBS has not rested on her oars. Laying a foundation of academic excellence in a loving and warm environment where every child feels safe and loved continues to lie at the center of the SBS experience.
