In 1923 Sister Mary Charles Magdalen Walker, an Irish Sister of the Charity came to Nigeria at the invitation of Bishop Joseph Shanahan CCSP. Her desire was to consecrate the rest of her life for the evangelization of the poor black of the Vicarate of Southern Nigeria which had no women religious missionaries who could take care of them. She built the former Convent Primary School which premises now is Ancilla Girls' College. The land was given by the Henshaw family to the mission on condition that a building be put up within three months. After waiting for eighteen years and no building was put up the owners of the land decided to take it back and the Bishop was ready to give it back to them. When Sister Mary Charles Magdalen Walker heard about this, she requested that the Bishop should give her the land so that she might see what she could do with it. So with the consent of the Bishop and the owners of the land, Sister Mary Charles Walker put up a convent and eight cottages for boarders within two years. This was the former Convent Primary School. With the Government policy after the Nigerian civil war the Convent Primary School came under the control of the government but in September, 2006 it was returned to the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus. Thanks to the government of Mr. Donald Duke. Since we already had two Nursery / Primary Schools in the premises the authorities of the Congregation thought it wise to open a College for girls to continue the work of Sister Mary Charles Magdalen Walker - education of girls. The College was founded on 10th September, 2007 with thirty-six students on roll and eight teachers. By 14th September (4 days later) the number of students increased to fifty-five.
