Edgerley Memorial Girls Secondary School (EMGSS) Calabar is the secondary arm of the Edgerley School which was the product of the Girls Institute established in July 1898 in a bid to separate the girls for vocational skills. With focus on domestic science the school grew in strength and repute as it trained and prepared girls for marriage. Edgerley School was changed from Orange Grove on Saturday 24th October 1931 when the school moved into its present site. Born out of the need to bring up the girl child to be an effective home manager the school has since grown both in history and achievement. Our story remains a remarkable one in the establishment of Girls College with a unique feature and records.
